'Out of Many One People' is represented. It shows a male and female member of the Taino tribe, standing on either side of a shield with a red cross and five golden pine cones.
The crest shows a Jamaican crocodile mounted on the royal helmet of the monarchy and the British mantle.
Considered as a legacy of the British with slight modifications, the coat of arms was granted to Jamaica in 1661 under the real mandate.
The original was designed by William Sancroft, then Archbishop of Canterbury.
The bearings of arms have undergone a series of changes since then, but the three main ones came to the light in 1692, 1957 and 1962, respectively.

The stamp motto has been the subject of debate for years since its inception. The original motto, INDUS UNTERQUE SERVIET VNI is the Latin translation of "The two Indians will serve as one", or rather "The two Indies will serve together", referring to the collective servitude of the Taino and Arawak Indians to the colonizers. The motto was replaced in 1962 by the motto "Out of Many, One People" , in homage to the unity of the different cultural minorities that inhabit the nation.
